• In loving memory of Dorothy ...

In loving memory of Dorothy L. Lovelady, who passed away peacefully at age 96 one year ago on Saturday, December 23, 2017 in Gainesville, FL. She was born on February 24, 1921, in Cordova, Alabama, on the family cotton farm. After proudly serving in the US Army as part of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II, Dorothy used her Army education and experience to get her first job in banking while in Seattle, Washington. After moving to Miami in 1950 she continued her banking career with Riverside Bank for the next 35 years and rising to the position of Assistant Vice President. While working she was able to indulge her three passions; shopping, dressing up and helping people. During her 53 year marriage to Garland they traveled the world in addition to crisscrossing the country numerous times in their RVs. They made Plantation Key their weekend retreat for many years where she perfected her recipe for Grunts and Grits. She taught younger generations to cook and sew and to also have career aspirations and invest wisely. Dorothy is survived by her son, Philip Lovelady (Becky), grandson Gregory Lovelady (Lindsay), granddaughter Rachel Tannebaum (Daniel), and great-grandchildren Noah, Eliana, Gavin, and Marin. A private graveside service was held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Woodlawn Park Cemetery South. Our family misses her every day and especially this holiday season.
